Youth Appreciation Week
Optimist Clubs recognize local youth for their efforts in the arts, athletics, academics and community service work. Since 1956, this program has given Optimist Clubs the occasion to work with youth toward the common goals of education, career development, physical well-being and community service. Youth Appreciation is designed to encourage a greater exchange of ideas between young people and adults.
The Mid Cities Optimist Club recognizes one student from each of the grade schools in the HEB Independent School District as the “Outstanding Student of the Year” at the annual Bell-Trinity football game at Pennington Field. Each student is presented the award by the Mid Cities Optimist Club and Texas State Representative Todd Smith at the beginning of the game. These students are selected by the facility of each school for their outstanding academic and community achievements.
